An Award With A Bo'e On It

9th Jack Petchey Winner is Bo'e

A big well done to our 9th Jack Petchey Achievement Award Winner in what has been an amazing year for young talent working with the ADO teams. This time we are pleased to announce that Bo'e Corneille has scooped the ultimate award from her peers, the second to be nominated from those mentoring at our Mini-Explorers Preschool Nursery. Bo'e was nominated by the children for always being available to help them, especially with their cooking and being fun to be around. Bo'e has certainly built a strong affinity with the children and deservedly gets recognised for her work down at the Preschool during the extended afternoon sessions.

Fruit Box Donation Rings A Bell

Bell Donate £100

We would like to say a big thanks to Bell Publishing Ltd for their donation of £100 recently. Bell Publishing Ltd is a family-owned international media and events company based in Gravesend. Editorial Director, Sarah McRitchie, explained, "Each week at head office we have a fresh fruit box delivered. The staff then give a donation for each piece of fruit they take to eat. The company matches the sum and makes a donation to a charity or not for profit organisation. On this occasion our Assistant Group Manager, Samantha Bull, suggested ADO. We were more than happy to donate to such a great cause."

The donation was used to add to the Silly Sally Fund to pay for the veterinary bills and subsequent electric fencing installed at Poets Corner.

Preschool Roundhouse Opening

James Brokenshire MP Opens Roundhouse

The ADO Mini-Explorers children, staff and parents had a very special guest on Friday 11th May, when Old Bexley and Sidcup MP, James Brokenshire and his lovely wife Cathy, visited the Preschool for the official opening of our Roundhouse. We would like to thank James for taking time out of his very busy schedule in his new role in government as Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, to support us as a local community focussed company.

Another Achievement Winner

Lewis Sticks To His Tasks To Become A Winner

We are pleased to announce that our 7th Jack Petchey Achievement Award winner is Lewis Stickings. Voted by his peers, Lewis has been Mr Dependable for at least a year now, volunteering on a Saturday to be a key member of the animal care team. Lewis always turns up, yes even when we had thick snow recently, working the Saturday session at both Poets Corner and at the main office, cracking on with his job come rain or shine. Recently completing two weeks of work experience at ADO, Lewis, currently studying at Hadlow Animal Management College, would like to work towards becoming a Marine Biologist eventually. He's pretty handy at catching the Guinea Pigs, so marine life should be easy-peasy! He has pledged his prize money towards building a new custom made enclosure for Bertha, ADO's enormous Burmese Python. Well done Lewis, a top man!

Need Help With Organising Your Party?

You Have Come To The Right PlaceHelp!!

Its stressful enough trying to organise an event, without quite knowing where to start! Thankfully help is at hand. We have been there and got the T-shirt when it comes to organising Animal Parties and hopefully this logical practical approach will help your decision making and ensure your event a fantastic success.

So I will hand you over to Melissa (on the right), our imaginary party organiser who has all the questions!

♦ Where Shall I Hold The Party?

We take the hassle away by offering our own venues for parties. We hold all our parties at The Healthcare and Education Centre, Poets Corner, Welling DA16 3NB. Its a 6.4 acre woodland site, with all the venue hire facilities you need to make your party a success. We take away the pain of you having to hire a venue, as our prices are all inclusive. You just turn up and we will have everything ready to rock 'n' roll for you. We can also offer an alternative party venue at our partner site in Bexley, next to the ADO Mini-Explorers Garden. ADO no longer provide mobile party services, so we won't visit home venues or third party hire venues anymore.

♦ How Long Should the Party Be?

For a children's party, do you really want it to go on longer than 2 hours!! Most parents look for 2 hour options, which is what we specialise in. We offer 1 hour of animals, 30 minutes break where you can serve food and then a final 30 minutes of further animals or activities. For the older children or adults, the 2 hour option works well with at least 12 animals involved. If you want a 2 hour party for younger children (7 years and younger) we can provide an hour of animals and then finish with activities and games if they are too young to concentrate for longer.

♦ What Ages Do You Cater For?

We cover all age groups from 1 to 100. We adapt and deliver our parties across all age groups. The animals don't care how old somebody is!!

♦ What Animals Can You Bring?

We bring at least 12 animals. We have a large selection to choose from, over 50 species! Once you have confirmed your booking, you can select from a list of animals and we can guide you to help choose them. We now that certain combinations of animals work for a particular age group and numbers.

♦ Can We Hold The Animals and Will They Bite?

If we get asked 'Will They Bite' one more time!!..........All animals can bite (except worms maybe), but our animals have been trained and socialised and are experienced to nearly every situation. Our animals are handled regularly and are perfectly fine with being handled. Our staff will instruct all your guests on how to hold them properly and safely. We can bring along a selection of animals that suit the age groups and numbers attending in a safe and controlled situation.

♦ Anything Else I Should Know?

Importantly we are not your average animal bloke who brings along a few of his pets! Our animals are our work colleagues and are properly cared for in a professional environment with our trained staff. We send at least two members of staff to your party and have all the correct legal cover including public liability, animal handling licensing and an animal travel license. We don't mess around, we are a professional organisation, not one man and his dog.

♦ What's Next Then? How Do I Book You?

First and foremost you need to book your preferred time and date. We get busy at weekends, so don't leave it to the last moment. On average, we book nearly a month in advance, sometimes more during peak times. Check our Online Customer Booking Calendar for a free space and then complete our Online Booking Form. Just complete as much detail as possible and we will be in touch. If you are not one of those comfortable with doing everything on a computer, give the office a ring and speak to a member of staff who can help you. We can't do anything unless the date and time are confirmed and is free to book.

♦ Once I Have Booked, What's the Next Steps

To secure your date and to make sure you don't lose it, we ask for a deposit of 50% within 48 hours of booking. Once its booked into our events calendar and the deposit has been paid, you can be sure you won't lose the date. We can then work out the finer details and work through the options. We normally contact you 7-10 days before the party to make sure everything is still on course and that none of the details have changed. Final payment of the party is due 7 days prior to the party day.

♦ I've Heard You Can Arrange Invites and Party Bags

Organising invites and party bags can be a right pain, when you already have so much to do. Yes, we can provide you with some A5 standard animal-themed invites where all you have to do is write the name of your guests. We can provide Sweet Cones or our Party Bags are great value too and packed with animal and wildlife themed gifts and sweets.

♦ Anything Else?

With parties being held at our Poets Corner venue, we can also offer to arrange for a local food delivery from one of our local delivery companies. We can also offer drink refereshments (water and squash - no limit), so you don't have to worry about bringing kiddy drinks. All these little extras for a small nominal fee.

♦ Venue Hire

If you want to hire our venue after the animal party, we can offer up to another 2 hours of hire, if you want to extend your celebration. So that's 2 hours of animal encounters and then 2 hours where you can use the facilities for your own use.

♦ Ticking Your Boxes

So that's about it. Hopefully we have ticked a few of your boxes when trying to organise your special event or celebration. Just in case we have missed something out, simply call the office and have a good chat with one of our staff.
