More ADO Qualified Staff in Bushcraft..
First of all we would like to congratulate our two staff members Sam and Amber on achieving their certification of Bushcraft Practitioner, when they completed a three day course deep in the depths of Derbyshire with our Bushcraft partner Big Dave Watson and his team from Woodland Survival Crafts. Dave has already successfully guided through two of our management team previously and of course was central to the design, build and training provided to staff when constructing our impressive natural wooden Round House at the Mini-Explorers Preschool Nursery.
The Bushcraft Practitioner skills will be key to the development of our two young members of staff both in our Outdoor Preschool setting and across our other services for outdoor education and experiences.
The Roundhouse is now operational, although we do intend to continue to develop its features. The groundwork with Dave's guidance has created an impressive structure for our early years in the true traditional spirit of outdoor learning. The timber frame was built as a hexagonal structure with an apex roof to a central main vertical timber beam. The sides of the structure have been painstakingly weaved into vertical struts using willow. The roof is currently tarpaulin, but will be replaced by a canvas roof in time for winter. Inside the Roundhouse are several sets of solar lights to provide a warm light during the winter months. The seating has been made from our designed pallet benches. as you can see below, its a mighty fine structure!
