Bug Hotel is Simply Exemplary !
If you remember back in June, we installed a monster ten-story bug hotel with surrounding wildlflower garden and insect loving plants at the new Lidl construction site on Upper Wickham Lane, Welling in partnership with IKON Construction. The idea was masterminded by IKON Site Sustainability Manager Iain Henderson, who was quick to get his friendly neighbours ADO involved with Community Wildlife Garden Project. The project is now coming to its natural end as the building work advances within the site footprint and the garden has now been levelled for further site works, as the store is due to open in November.
There were many reasons to be involved in this exciting and pioneering project. The list of beneficiaries include the general public, who walk past it everyday, Bexley Learning Centre for their site trips, ADO for our continued commitment for the community and of course IKON Construction who are leading the way in achieving constructors compliance.
With the help of the Community Wildlife Garden, they have just achieved their 'Performance Beyond Compliance' Certificate, as part of the Code of Considerate Constructors Practice Scheme. They received a magnificent 9 out of 10 - Exceptional, for the 'Protect The Environment' section and 8 out of 10 - Excellent, for the 'Respect The Community' section.
The Bug Hotel will continue its journey when it gets relocated to the next IKON project at Lidl's Hornchurch, Essex. The Wildflower Garden has been dug up, but the plants will be re-planted at our Outdoor Education and Therapy Centre at Poets Corner, Welling.
The next project for ADO will be to install the next Bug Hotel, which will be located at the Lidl construction site in Norwood, London SW16.
