Hygiene - 5 Star
Our Preschool kitchen has just been inspected and awarded a Five Star Rating by the London Borough of Bexley authorities.
It was only during the Christmas period that we had been given a provisional 1 star rating, down from our original 5 Star Rating from the previous year. A few of our preschool parents picked up on this 1 star rating, which for us, was unfortunately published before we had a chance of re-inspection. Rest assured, the inspection was made at a very unfortunate time and did not in any way reflect our normal levels of kitchen hygiene. Now that we have been given a 5 star rating on re-inspection, we are happy to spill the beans and explain why we were only awarded 1 star on the initial inspection.
For a start the inspection was out of term time. It was completed during the week before Christmas. Some of our core team were on leave. Out of term time is normally when we send our operational team onsite for maintenance and improvement. Working alongside our partners at Albany Park Church, we had been planning to work on the kitchen during this quiet period and on our list was, re-painting the kitchen walls and ceiling, re-sealing the worktops, adding more storage, updating the signage and a good spring clean ready for the new term.
The inspection came right in the middle of this work and at about the worst time possible! The main reason for a poor rating was not the current state of the kitchen, but in fact because we did not have the appropriate kitchen signage and hygiene records to show the inspector. Why? Well they were all at head office being filed and new record sheets sorted for the new term. Our signage was being re-printed and laminated.
So, its no coincidence that we were rated from a 5 star to a 1 star and then back to a 5 star!! Lets just say it was a lesson learnt!
Our next inspection will be from 3rd February 2020.
