The Jack That Keeps Giving
Once again we are absolutely delighted to announce our 15th and 16th Jack Petchey Achievement Award Winners. Both winners hail from our fantastic mentor team of young people working with our Early Years Preschool children at the Mini-Explorers Nursery. Ella McHolland-Pilcher and Harriet Bince have also helped ADO in other areas of the business, with Ella very keen on working with the ADO horse and ponies, providing Saturday morning equine care and Harriet who has been helping ADO for many years since she first joined the original ADO After-School club in Bexley during her primary years.
Preschool Operations Manager, Cath Epps, provided a perfect summary of the talents of these two mentors, "Here at the Mini Explorers Pre-school the children nominated Ella and Harriet on separate occasions for the Jack Petchey Award. Their help, dedication and enthusiasm working with young children in an outdoor setting have been recognised by the children, staff and families. Ella and Harriet are keen to run different activities and deliver fun new ideas for the children in the after school club, as well as sometimes helping in the holiday clubs. A great hit was running an art session using natural colours found outside, charcoal, berries, and mud. The topic that day was “Around the World”. Ella and Harriet spoke to the children about the Indigenous Australians about the art and how it has been found going back thousands of years, that it tells stories which are important to their community. The children then designed their own picture with a story using sticks leaves etc. for the tools to paint."
Ella has decided to spend her £250 on some Bushcraft resources for the children at the Nursery. Harriet in the meantime decided to use her award to purchase the children some educational resources with a theme of 'Around the World' to highlight the diverse culture and themes of the world community.
Once again we like to thank the Jack Petchey Foundation for their continued support of such a worthy, motivating and positive scheme for our young people.
