The Animal Care Assistant role will support our current Animal Care Team based over two sites in Welling. We have over 50 species of animals and they all need daily care. This role will provide care and some project work based around our animals at Upper Wickham Lane, Welling and Poets Corner, Welling.

The role demands a minimum commitment of 1 day per week over a 6 month period. There will be a one month probation period. The ADO Animal Care team work Monday to Sundays - 9am until 5.30pm (12 Midday on Sunday).

You will supporting our animal care team with their daily schedules of ensuring our animals are maintained, fed and cleaned to a high standard. There will be some project based work within the Mammal Enclosures, Equine Areas, Reptile Centre or Invertebrate Room. Occasionally there may be opportunity to work with other teams at a variety of events.

Although there are many technical aspects to animal care, especially with their health, the key attributes we would be looking for in this role would be attention to details and good communication skills. We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with a passion for animals, but is comfortable with people across all levels of the business. If you have a particular animal you prefer to work with, for example horses, then this can still be arranged.

The ADO team work across many different types of services and as a volunteer you will welcomed into the team and have an opportunity to understand how the business works by volunteering for events and other sessions.

Person Specification

♦ Essential - The applicant requires minimum Level 2 in Animal Care-Management or similar qualification

♦ Essential - The applicant must have proven experience of working with animals

♦ Essential - Good communication skills - Attention to detail

♦ Essential - Ability to follow schedules and work without direct supervision

♦ Essential - Able to follow task lists and understanding priority items from less important tasks

♦ Essential - Ability to work in a team

♦ Desirable - Full clean driving license or easy transport links to our sites.

♦ Desirable - Experience in working outdoors in all weathers

♦ Desirable - Experience with working with animals outside of an education centre environment
